Sotdae (솟대) are erected near village entrances as guardians and good luck bringers. Their pole represent the world axis, and the bird a messenger between the physical and spiritual realm.

Their rough-hewn, minimalist design became a great inspiration for me as I explored Korean myths and traditions.
